The Government of Uttar Pradesh on August 17, 2026, notified the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities (Amendment) Act, 2026, to further amend the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities Act, 2019.
The following has been stated: -
•Schedule-2 is amended to add Metro University, Greater Noida, sponsored by Sunhill Health Care Pvt. Ltd., Noida, as Serial No. 53.
•The State Government is empowered to issue orders to remove difficulties in establishing the University, with such power limited to two years from commencement of the Act.
•Such orders must be laid before both Houses of the State Legislature.
The U.P. Private Universities (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026 (Ordinance No. 10 of 2026) and Second Amendment Ordinance, 2026 (Ordinance No. 15 of 2026) are repealed.
•Actions already taken under the repealed Ordinances are saved and deemed to have been taken under the corresponding provisions of the Act.
•It shall be deemed to have come into force with effect from April 24, 2026.
